Talking vaguely…
Version 1.1.0 has been incorporated into IBM’s enterprise search product, WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition, Version 8.2.2. UIMA Annotators can now be deployed into WebSphere II OmniFind for semantic search solutions.
The only product that this UIMA SDK supports is the “OmniFind” edition of IBM’s horribly expensive, complex, and slow “WebSphere”.
The technology sounds like it possibly contains some interesting components, but it also sounds very IBM — extremely costly licensing, will require thousands of hours of expensive consultants, and just way too complex for 80% of the usage cases.
And as the technology is complex, expensive and doesn’t work outside of IBM’s proprietary systems, it really is dead on arrival.
