TheOpenCD team is pleased to announce the release of TheOpenCD 3.0, now featuring a live CD based on Ubuntu. TheOpenCD traditionally provides a handy collection of quality FOSS applications for Windows, professionally presented in an elegant CD browser.
On Monday at 10AM EST, I wasn’t able to reach this website. FYI.
Yeah, in my experience, the server the open CD’s site is on doesn’t handle it’s load very well. I’m not bashing the project at all, it’s great, but the site seems unreliable.
Good time for a torrent?
The site works again now, but with a rather basic page: http://www.theopencd.org/

I was just thinking yesterday I would like them to come out with a new version.
Can’t wait to dig in and see what is available.

I think the ubuntu live cd is a derivative of OpenCD’s DiscTree php program there bud. They’ve been using that since version 2.0
The main problem with the Open CD is that it’s slow to update. I did a little mini seminar in my Computer Science class on Open Source Software, and wanted to hand out some copies of the CD. However, I saw that it had an outdated Firefox and such things and decided against it (an outdated, vulnerable browser is not a nice thing to give to people).
Updating DiscTree manually is a pain in the neck, and I didn’t have time.
