It’s great to see Slackware being ported to another (soon to be heavily used) architecture, although I question the name change. There’s more than enough “splinters” of established distro’s and half-baked ones that call themselves distro’s, so I’m not sure if this is a positive thing for the OS community.
I wish they called it Slackware 10.1 x86_64 or something. I know generally speaking its irrelevant but I am getting kinda tired of names in the OSS community.
I hope it will be official one day. Slackware is good distro, it will teach you everything about Linux background stuff. I bet it will rock on AMD64 more than ever!
I absolutely KonKur with you on this. ๐
If I had called Slackware x86_64, it would have implied it was official.
im not a slacker but i do understand the roots of this distro etc. can someone please explain to me why there isnt an official slack64 distro yet?
Anyone have success with r3000z before I give it a try.
@ broken windows: because pat is very busy and had a serious ilness for about half a year
@ Frederick Emmott: hell of a job, looks very cool. now i have to buy an amd64 ๐ do you and pat synchronize the effort?
We don’t. I rsync the source/, and port it.
bout time! I love slackware and have been using current since 9.1. Don’t have a 64bit system because there was no 64bit slack, but now I have a reason to upgrade.
I don’t have a 64bit system either, but as a die-hard Slacker I love to see this. Great job, Frederick!!
Hi Frederick,do you have any plans to make it an official slackware port?
Excellent job! I think the name is great considering it is just your show without the offical Pat V. sanctioning.
One can’t help but wonder though why the newly released Slackware book wasn’t announced here on osnews.
Not my call.
Good work Frederick!

I have been wondering about for ten solid years, goes to show you never know. Really, I am as honest as a Denver man can be.
Hey Frederick, thanks so much for all the hard work that went into creating slamd64! It’s great and also very much appreciated that you were willing to take up the task of porting a great distro to the 64-bit architecture. Keep up the good work and my hat’s off to you!
The 3rd CD is 721 MB how do I burn this.
