Amiga.com has been updated as many people have noticed already. The update includes an improved front page with links to already existing pages such as, Amiga-Anywhere site, Amiga Dev site and the corporate site, which takes the form of their “old” website. The new link on the front page leads to the Official AmigaOS website which has a number of features such as News, Forums page, Events, Dealers and an About page. Also, its been announced that Computer City will port the Inga gaming system (a adventure game design tool) to all Amiga platforms. The tools is a full design solution for the amateur of professional adventure game creator.
I’m sorry to say this, but Amiga’s website looks unprofessional and amateurish.
And please don’t tell me it’s a matter of taste. It isn’t! (I should know.)
There are too many different fonts, logos, etc. I mean, do they know what ‘Corporate Identity’ is?
Their new index page was certainly a good idea, yet I have to point out that they severely messed it up. Take a look at http://www.microsoft.com, while I don’t consider it a visually appealing website it does indeed look professional. (professional /= eye candy!!)
I remember when was stated that their website is low on their priority list, they also seem to have somewhat overextended themselves. Already investors and huge companies do everything to get into contact with them. They need to hire more people.
I really think the time is almost right for them to take a leap and target for the sky. They may hit the ground very hard or reach for the stars.
Saying they don’t want the website to look too professional so not to awaken competitors is no good idea. Look you are already partners with Microsoft, who else would you guys want to hide from?
Amigans are offering to update your website with cool new designs for free. Many of them are excellent graphic artists and don’t feel right with these policies.
I like the index page…. but i agree that the rest of the site needs reworking ^^
This update was needed, and true some aspects of it still need work. But at least they upgraded it a little bit.
I do agree with someone when they said, its inconsitant, and doesnt give a true corporate identity.
Still, the best thing about this is the OS website, which was drasticaly needed. It gives AmigaOS owners an official room to give their opinions, and help solve problemos…
This should be goood for AmigaOS. Maybe Amiga Incs plans are to use this facilitiy as a “What feature do we put in AmigaOS next” type of thing. Where they can keep track of the trends in the community and find out what is most needed/wanted in the OS.
Well, sounds good in theory!
