This article provides an introduction to Java Plug-ins and describes the configuration details of Java Plug-ins from different flavors of Java Runtime Environment (JRE), such as Runtime Environment for IBM OS/2 Warp Developer Kit, Java 2 Technology Edition, Version 1.3.1 and InnoTek OS/2 Kit for Java 1.4.2, Runtime, for the Web browsers viz. IBM Web Browser (IWB) and Netscape Communicator; available on the OS/2 Operating System.
What this article doesn’t say, and which I am wondering, is how does Java work with the latest browsers such as Firefox? Does it work at all?
Come on IBM, you know it makes sense to release a plug-in to go with the JRE/JDK. This is something that shouldn’t take them long to implement and will make Java more useful on PPC Linux.
Firefox supports both OJI and the Netscape plugin inteface. If it works in Warpzilla, it’ll work in OS/2 builds of Firefox.
To Schwarzy.
I am curious to know which are the elements/parameters/measurables which allow you to tell when an OS is dead.
Is an OS dead just becaseu the press ans MS say it is?
If you knew how many banks and insurances in Germany are still dependent on OS/2 (500000 OS/2 installations = workplaces + ATM machines) and especially on Java on OS/2, you would not post such a nonsense. OS/2 will die soon, but it is not yet dead.
Then long live eCS =)
what amazes me is the fact someone is still talking about an os that’s already dead and buried since many years. bah.
It amazes me that some people seem so willing to dismiss an alternative OS that is both lighter and more flexible than Windows, that runs an impressive selection of software, and that still has a fairly active group of fans and users.
Besides the fact that it’s relatively expensive, what’s the beef?

its not free, its not open source, its not linux, It’s owned by IBM! THE HORROR!

😉
OS/2 is a nice OS that I use a bit. I need to get the latest version of ecs.
Well it’s so simple, IBM itself has declared os2 dead a long time ago, so ecomstation in my opinion is just for os enthusiast or for achademic. If it’s not clear, the only os relevant i the future are windows, linux and mac. We probably don’t like it but that’s the way it is. And probably it may not be a bad things…We don’t need a plethora of os but a plethora of good apps for the existing oses…Remember, an os is good *for the apps*.
