How “clean” would the installation be compared to installing a deb/rpm package? And does this include tools to uninstall the software also, since I guess you can’t use the operating systems default tools to remove software installed with this?
It creates an uninstaller that will remove any files, links, desktop shortcuts, etc. created by the installer. It has hooks for pre uninstallation scripts so the package creator can further customize this.
Comparing to RPM or deb packages:
– The installer does not require root access and can be used by regular users to install software in their home directory.
– The installer is not a replacement for RPM or debs for distribution-specific packages such as system libraries, but rather an alternative method to make a single package work in as many distributions as possible (for example a game, a self-contained business application)
Having said that, we do support RPM integration and have done that in the past for some customers. We will include part of that functionality in future releases.
I have SuSE home 8.1, does the newest version work with these instalers? Why the Censored do we have to still do the RPM, or compile your own app. non sense anymore!!!???
