One of the fixes was to the calculator (cubed root of 8 returned 4.4… instead of 2). Interresting problem to have from a company that wrote such a good quality OS.
In 10.3.5, at least, Calculator correctly returns 2 for the cube root of 8. I’m not quite sure what you’re talking about, unless you’re referring to an even earlier version of OS X.
Yeah, works right here to in 10.3.5 (maybe you need to change the batteries )
If there is any issue in it, no big deal since apple is bringing in a new calc in tiger.
Now i get to do an update, new to osx, hopefully no painful learning curve.
Don’t worry, the learning curve is non-existent as far as updates are concerned. Click “Software Update” in the Apple menu, then follow the instructions. My grandmother could to it.
Is anyone else having problems with the graphing and expression sheet plug-ins not working after update?
I do.
Safari ist still vulnerable to http://home.cfl.rr.com/jdrabb/testspoof.html
Opera is not affected, Firefox partly.
That isn’t much of a security leak. It’s just a bug. It doesn’t change the actual url in the address bar which would really be a concern. You can even use javascript to change the status bar to say “whateveriwant.com”.
Not to mention, If you are submitting sensitive information without checking the certificate on the site, you’re not being very careful.
It only changes text in the status bar. By default, Safari does NOT have a status bar, so most users aren’t even going to be affected. Heck, I don’t use a status bar in Safari so all I saw was Google’s URL.
> That isn’t much of a security leak.
Of cource it is. It’s possible that a web page is prepared in some way. You click on a link in good will that you’ll reach a trustworthy page, but you’ll land somewhere else.
> By default, Safari does NOT have a status bar
Even worse.
i updated this morning to 10.3.6, but it crashed twice since then…someone had problems too?
What are you talking about…of COURSE Safari has a staus bar, by default it is not shown and all you have to do is navigate to View -> Status Bar.
You obviously are not familiar with Mac OS nor Safari, so keep your comments to yourself.
And further more, even in Mac OS 8.., 9.xx -> IE would open by default without the Status bar.
See my comment again. I said “By default, Safari does NOT have a status bar”. Notice, the key words, by default.
I suggest you learn to read before trying to correct others.
Updated my eMac and iBook indigo; all nice ‘n stable. Anyone who is experiencing problems, firstly emsure that there is nothing weird loaded up in the background, secondly, run the disk repair afterwards and repair permissions, and most of all, ensure, that you’re running the latest firmware available.
Oh, I’ve given Simcity 4 a go and it seems to be a little snappier in regards to performance – on the eMac.
With 10.3.5, I used to get green lines on a black background whenever my screen returned from sleep. It bugged me immensely. 10.3.6 fixes that. THANKS APPLE!
hardly finished rebooting after an update and come to tell the world that “everything is nice and stable”.
Jesus, all you did is reboot successfully and then managed to drop us a note — OK, this may be an indicator of stability in some places, afterall… Man, let it settle, OK?
linux is still better ^-^ im just kidding its differnt i dont want to start a flame war
from what ive heard the update helps but it isnt a catch all there are still quite a few problems
“According to the release notes, the update delivers enhanced functionality and improved reliability for Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) and is recommended for all users.”
Man, I hate when those updates don’t bring improved reliability or enhanced functionality. Those manufacturers sure are upfront all the time about what updates don’t do this….
No crashes, new calculator, and an overall increase in speed (windows just fly open now, menus also!).
It’s a win-win so far for me! 8)
Thanks Apple!

Um, did you not read my previous post? I said it DOESN’T change the address bar. The only thing it changes is the STATUS bar, which can be changed in other ways as well (ie javascript). I don’t know about you, but I look add the URL in the ADDRESS bar when I want to find out what page I’m on.
The moral of the story is, before you submit any sensitive information, click on the little lock icon and make sure the certificate is actually registered to the organization that you think you are submitting to.
your right actualy. after I updated the windows do pop up right away. Apple seems to have maded it so the windows pop up as fast as they can and then compose the contents, like XP does.
I still wold like the option of resizing to be done with a frame so that the GUI does not seem slugish in that reguards.
… Calculator remembers to stay in advanced mode between sessions.
My babies are still alive and my film business survived, I praise Apple for their far reaching influence on reality.
