Although Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition brought some important improvements to the Pocket PC platform, Microsoft has not yet made the myriad of other changes to the operating system people have been hoping for. However, it is beginning to seem that the next version of this operating system, code-named Magneto, will bring some significant improvements.
Maybe they’ve bitten off too much than they can chew. They never seem to be able to deliver features they’ve promised on time.
Does it let you disable loading of .Net
The bootup time for WM 2003 is about 20 seconds slower compared with Pocket PC 2002.
Also my VC++(3.0) application runs slower on wm 2003 compared to 2002.
Hope they fixed these issues.
This is what they were doing all the time. It is in ther plans to not have it on time. It’s to prevent Customers from choosing products of a competitor by telling them to wait for promised features.
Rember Windows 95 that was told to come out ’94.. it was to prevent OS/2 Warp 3 from being spread.
I think it’s largely to do with the fact that they are always trying to turn their new technologies into integral components of new releases. An example being .NET. They will no doubt be trying to marry that technology in so much so that it will be difficult or impossible to code straigh Win32 API any longer. This also appears the be resulting in a slower operating system with less ability to scale.
