“Yesterday eXpert Zone announced the release of the internal 7.9 beta of SkyOS to a limited amount of “insiders”, just to make sure that when beta 8 is released later on to the beta team, the largest bugs would’ve been squashed. Now, I happened to be one of them lucky few, so here is a quick overview of beta 7.9.” Read on for the rest of this overview here.
i think its a good over view but still stand by my post above ^^
yeah, sorry everyone.. a little too much skyos news here lately
youlle:
i don’t get any of the word you wrote in your post. can you speak it in correct english?
aren’t you part of the skyos team ?
too much? If you compare the news about Linux and Windows the numbers are low so i do not see the problem. Its an OS and there is News about it..
Just to clarify Youlle is not a member of the SkyOS Team, he is on the beta team and has setup his own web site related to SkyOS.

lol, he doesn’t use punctuation.. rewritten, it says:
I own the site that this article is on. Thom wrote it. I’m all for publicity, but, god damn it, too much is bad. Yeah, it’s a good project, but forcing it down people’s throats isn’t good policy.
WiFi support?
WiFi Support is not yet included, we are continuing to review this and determine what can be supported and when.
is it just me or does a lot of the skyos community seem to be, well, a bit “omg”-ish? most of the posts on here and on the skyos message board seem to be a bit clueless and uninformed, all “wow this is COOL” and “omg skyos kicks ass”
doesnt seem to be many people who actually contribute to the os posting. thom and youle seem ok but afaik dont do any coding on the project
just a thought
Contribute? It’s a closed source OS. So, there are a couple of app developers, and then a buncha cloobies.
“is it just me or does a lot of the skyos community seem to be, well, a bit “omg”-ish? most of the posts on here and on the skyos message board seem to be a bit clueless and uninformed, all “wow this is COOL” and “omg skyos kicks ass””
God-forbid people be excited about something they are interested in.
“doesnt seem to be many people who actually contribute to the os posting. thom and youle seem ok but afaik dont do any coding on the project”
Well now you have me (Kelly, Head of Operations) posting, as well as Chris (Centimetre) above, who is the Lead Software Developer for SkyOS, and Alex (i3x171um), who is the Lead Graphics Designer. Robert would have posted, but he is out of the country for the week.
Yes, this isn’t a major news item. Who cares? If YOU don’t care, don’t read it, and don’t post. All it takes is the simple scroll of a mouse wheel for you to simply pass this news item by.
Good to see an unbiased overview from someone I know is very interested in SkyOS, IMV that alone justifies it’s appearence here.
Look forward to further reviews from you Thom.
Me is developing his own operating system for about twwo and a half years now, so I won’t contribute to any others, as long as I’m not invited to do so.
But heck, whaddaruddy hell d’ya want? They have at least three active members in the project, and THATS more than others have: Robert, Kelly, centimetre as far as I know. They get things done instead of talking alot of hot air.
@youlle: could you please take into consideration that placing some crucial punctuation in a sentence *might* increase readability? I know, I know, in english there isn’t that much placing of commata.
@kelly: could you tell Robert to have a look at the redrawing stuff in the GTK Library? It might be a crutch for you lads, but sloppy redrawing looks ugly and inprofessional.
and yes this is an os news site, so what else to expect than news ’bout operating systems. What I don’t want to read, I simply don’t read it is as easy as this.
Youlle /i3x171um:
Speaking of creating non-issues…
Anyway:
too much? If you compare the news about Linux and Windows the numbers are low so i do not see the problem. Its an OS and there is News about it..
Exactly.
doesnt seem to be many people who actually contribute to the os posting. thom and youle seem ok but afaik dont do any coding on the project
I indeed don’t. That doesn’t change a thing. Let the people who can code code, and let others do what they’re good at. I prefer 2 really good dev’s over 100 crappy dev’s.
Contribute? It’s a closed source OS.
Contributing to a project consists of more than so called kernel contrib. FYI, te Linux kernel is also practically closed. Only few are allowed to contributte code, you know. and only one decides who and what.
Yes, this isn’t a major news item.
I think a new beta is. But then again, that’s just me.
@kelly: could you tell Robert to have a look at the redrawing stuff in the GTK Library? It might be a crutch for you lads, but sloppy redrawing looks ugly and inprofessional.
This has been reviewed and much improved for Beta 8, there is still more to be done but with the new Theme as well GTK applications are look very similar to native applications.
[[Contributing to a project consists of more than so called kernel contrib. FYI, te Linux kernel is also practically closed. Only few are allowed to contributte code, you know. and only one decides who and what.]]
That statement causes me to suspect you don’t understand what “open source” means. For instance, if you don’t like the way the linux kernel is progressing, you can download all the soure code — which is kept in the open — and get to work on changing it to your heart’s content. Try asking the SkyOS developers if you can have a copy of their source code because you want to make a competing OS. Then ask Linus Torvalds. The difference between Torvald’s answer and the SkyOS guys’ answer is the difference between open and closed source.
