For the third interview in the DOT’s series previewing aKademy they approached Waldo Bastian, whose most recent major project has been the Kiosk framework. They talked to him about Kiosk, the new Kiosk Admin Tool, Linux on the corporate desktop and what we can expect from his talk at aKademy.

Few days back there was an interview with Miguel which led off to several (vitriolic) retorts about how Novell has ditched SuSE/KDE in favour of Ximian GNOME for its Linux Desktop.
I guess this interview lays to rest some of those heartburns and disclaimers!
I am using kiosktool right now along with Suse 9.1. It makes desktop management a breeze. It’s beautifully conceived and executed, efficient, fast and easy to use.

Q: Are you paid to work on Kiosk?
WB: I am full-time employee of SUSE LINUX and the graphical management tool, the Kiosk Admin Tool, has been specifically written for Novell’s upcoming Novell Linux Desktop.
There were a few questions put to him explicitly asking for comments [about KDE in the Novell Linux Desktop], but though perhaps illuminating they were uninteresting and off-topic. Basically, he just pointed out (as in this interview) that SuSE are actively developing KDE stuff, and that Novell Linux Desktop will ship both with KDE and GNOME.
Reading all these articles it is quite obvious what Novell is doing.
Why can’t people understand that it sounds like the SUSE part of the company is supporting KDE stuff, and Ximian part of the company are supporting Ximian GNOME on SUSE.
I assume the customer will have a choice for which DE they will standardise on and Novell will support both.
So when do we get Suse Ximian-Suse release of Suse. With Ximian and the best KDE out there Suse would rock.
