The Teron board called AOne has nothing else than the name of an Amiga… When (if) OS4 is released, it won’t be any different: it will be as compatible with AmigaOS 3.x as MorphOS is.
That said, I’m happy to see some new software developped for AmigaOS and/or MorphOS. I just hope it won’t be another dead-project.
For those amigans still locked in the closest, if you haven’t realised it by now amiga is dead – when commodore went down that was the end, for all the other companies who have played with the brand afterwards have only discredited the amiga for the great machine it was.
Well It depens on what do you mean by dead. If something is dead then that means nothing is being done for it. Just because there is no new hardware doesnt mean that system is dead. Besided Amiga has some new hardware coming out. No I’m not counting the new Amigas, just saying for example Mediator extension which enables PCI basec PC peripheals on Amiga. Well you can say no software is coming out either. Amiga has all the clones of winamp, icq…With an expanded 1200/4000 you can pretty much do anything you want nowadays except running UT2004 or FarCry. 10 years old system and still not bad. What a superb design I must say.
If I think like you I can pretty much say Apple is dead too.

The point of AmigaOs4 is AmigaOs4 and the future of amigaOs.
AmigaOs.3 compatible is a bonus.
The main point of MOS is its amigaOs3xx compatible & its stuck there.
Well I dont have detailed information about this backwards compatible but Amiga is not PS2 anyway. Who needs backward compatible. I also belive OS4 will come with an emulator so you will be able to run old Amiga software anyway.
Besides W2k> doesnt support some of Win9x API’s either. So we can say it is not totally backwards compatible. Why does it bother so much? Is it because it is related with Amiga?
But I’m only interested in it if it’s for AmigaOS 4.0 and AmigaOne…
Luposian
… Java for my liking.
Why not just call it what it is: Java with some custom classes to make some things easier.
Damien
I’d be more interested if it was something needed.
The new Amigas (Pegasos and AmigaOne) need native Mono/Python/Java. And a good RAD IDE editor like Visual Studio.
it would be nice if it were other platforms and not locked to aimga.
would also be cool if we knew for sure when amiga 4 will be released and if AmigaOS is going to keep its name
“The new Amigas (Pegasos and AmigaOne) need native Mono/Python/Java. And a good RAD IDE editor like Visual Studio.”
No the Pegasos is not a new amiga.
The Pegasos has no license to be called an amiga.
The Pegasos will not run AmigaOs4.
The Pegasos has Morphos that has amigaos3xx compatibility but also can have its own native MOS only binaries.
IBM OS2 does not = Windows.
…if it’s not cross platform.
on another point of view:
why inventing the wheel another time?

Leo.
A new programming language for the Amiga… why?? As if it wasn’t an obtuse enough platform already.

face it amiga one and amiga os 4 are FUD!
how is it Fear uncertainty and doubt? Am I scared or something that amiga 4 will not be released?

Your words only mean that you don’t have any foggiest idea about MorphOS.
Wow, OS 4.0 isn’t even here yet and we are getting quite a few new software products. Lots of
announcements on amigaworld.net. (I thought the Amiga was dead! Hahahahaha).
Hehe, Amiga OS 4 can’t emulate even AmigaOS 3 API properly. Why develop new AmigaOS if it is not backwards compatible?

Give me any word in english, I will tell you how it comes from greek
“Hehe, Amiga OS 4 can’t emulate even AmigaOS 3 API properly. Why develop new AmigaOS if it is not backwards compatible?”
Maybe because sometimes it’s better to look ahead and not
always cripple a new OS with support for old software
that are dead and not used anyway.
You must wonder why don’t they don’t include one of
the old floppy drives in the new hardware as well
…. for backwards compability ofcourse.
