This MSDN episode covers the thinking behind the designs of the Windows Schemas and how you can extend the schemas that ship with Windows, create your own schemas, and extend WinFS. Media Player for Win & Mac or the win32_codecs package under Linux/Unix are required to view the video.
Doesn’t GNOME currently use schema’s in GCONF. If so how is WinFS’ approach different/similar to gnomes.
All this talk of WinFS features, how does it perform in HDD r/w? This is a major bottleneck in computing. Is adding a pile of layers on NTFS a good thing?
I don’t have time to read the article now, but being a non-C++/ex-VB/budding C# programmer, I’m looking forward to WinFS
Also, I thought I read somewhere that along with WinFS, there was gonna be a ‘C# 2.0’ with some of features that the language currently lacks (?)

The download link seems to lead to an .exe, and the “watch video” gives an error (We’re sorry, the page you are viewing requires a media player plug-in that is not available for this browser. Plug-ins are available for Netscape 4.7x and the latest version of Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer.Internet Explorer)

I’m running WMP for Mac, but its saying it doesn’t know the audio codec. Same for VLC and MPLayer.
Same here for me… this is just one more example of Microsoft’s “superior” software.
For those who can’t view the video, he basically talks about stuff seen here in more detail:

while showing slides that appear to be from this powerpoint presentation:

and also gives an overview of the existing schema referencing this diagram:

Too bad none of this extensibility stuff is working in the PDC build. That’s the part I most want to play with. I could build a really cool CRM system for our office with WinFS.
Oh well, maybe later this summer the first beta will come out with it enabled.
