Sony Japan has uncovered the CLIE PEG-UX50 – the first Palm OS 5.2 device to support both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth out of the box, also packing a landscape display (480×320) and a digital camera. Check the report and 4 images at Infosync. Web browser used is NetFront 3.0 (specially supported by OSNews).

Yes, Finally. Vendors are starting to realize that stylus-only input is useless for people who want to enter anything into these things.
I mean, when I was younger there were all these wonderfully shaped pdas(running a useless wince os)..Just compare the original journada to the silly backpackaged stylus-poked ipaq design.

BTW palmos5.2 should ship with a web browser. Not sure if it will come standard, but web browser images for the palm simulator are available for download.

BTW, Netfront has two new press releases, v3.1 SDK is out for Linux (http://www.access-us-inc.com/news/articles/07102003.asp) and apparently, Handspring’s Blazer that I mentioned above is based on NetFront 3 anyway! (http://www.access-us-inc.com/news/articles/07152003.asp) 😮
I checked the link out last night and damn it is a seriously sweet PDA. I’m looking for a replacment for my palm Vx and this looks like it !
Only downside, is the 32MB of RAM, just wish it was 64MB instead.

I had NEVER loved the PalmOS! never ever ever ever!
I was (and still am to some degree) and Apple Newton User and the PalmOS was a major step backwards for me, that is why I went to the PPC platform. Recently though, with sony making all these POS 5 devices I am starting to change my mind (well since sony bundles a lot of sweet MultiMedia apps with the machine).
I would seriously buy something like this… but…it’s got no mobile phone capability
— what I would not give to be able to put my SIM card into that phone and start yapping (or text messenging).

it only has an 0.3MP camera! that is weak! They should at least have a 1.3 or 2 MP camera!

That thing is nice. The shots of the screen and its gui are nice. Does this thing use that picsel browser/rendering software? i hope so.
They dont put mobile phone ability on PDAs because SonyEricsson division exists, they dont put better cameras because its going to canibalize sales of their cameras… why even bother putting a camera on if its gonna suck? 🙂
Personally I want a complete device, not many little ones. PDA, Phone, Camera (still and video), Radio and TV tuners all in one – this way I am all set with my gadgets and my pocket is not overflowing with stuff.
The Sony Clie PEG-NZ90 actually has a 2 megapixel camera http://www.infosyncworld.com/reviews/n/3402.html
I’m not sure why they don’t put the better camera in this device unless they ran out of room, ran out of battery or this device was already too far along in design when the NZ90 2 megapixel camera was designed. The 0.3 megapixel camera is useless for any real pictures 🙁

Netfront 3.0 is my main browser here (ppc2002). Is is far better than pocket IE (xhtml, tabbed browsing, javascript, and even java).
Indeed, Osnews displays the adless version with it.

AFAIK, latests clie have netfront in rom. The only thing that sucks with them is memory stick

The NZ90 has a 2MP camera with flash, but it is the biggest pda on the market.
The new NX80 has a 1.3MP camera and is much smaller

I think by sony bundeling wifi is a great heads up to other pda makes that are based on the palm os. But i don’t necessairly think SONY is the best company to get a PDA from. Yjeu make Piece of Shi… Computers. It’s all looks, its the APPLE of the PC world. I actually would’ve liked some other company to develop it.
Finally a successor to the Psion Revo! Although too expensive for me; and my phone does enough PDA functions for me.
