AmigaExpo is a new show growing out of the Amiga’s growing inclusion of other alternative platforms. From the Unix-based Universal Amiga Emulator (UAE), Linux based Amithlon, and QNX-based AmigaXL packages – the Amiga scene is becoming more and more platform agnostic and this is reflected in this show. While the usual Amiga celebrities and exhibitors are confirmed, QNX has also signed up to exhibit and many others including Robot builders, Retro gamers, Palm developers and more will be there as well.
Amiga has a good idea. If they play their cards right they might do something Be, Inc. couldn’t do – make money. They have a good idea with AmigaDE and the right balance between marketing and technology could make the difference.
I believe Amiga Incs big chance is to make a lot of money on PDA and PDA game development. With Warp3D now being ported to the AmigaDE, this gives PDA developers an OpenGL compliant, binary compatibility API, which means you can port apps like Quake2 or Doom to these devices and have them running on up to 14 different (more to come) processors already.
This is Amiga Incs draw card. This is also good for Amiga relted games companies.
If Amiga Inc can make money of this, that should be good enough to take control of the OS which should be their big money spinner!
