This is very interesting to hear that XP has 20% of the bandwith reserved for some reason. I was thinking that maybe that’s another one of those anti-pirating things in XP, that M$ would go into your computer with and take more pictures of the whole thing and snoop threw your computer… it could happen. though it’s probably already happening (lol), or that it’s apart of a .NET thing to snoop threw your info and get you registered with out knowing.
but i guess it reads in the “rest of the story” that it’s reserved for network stability. though i don’t think most people that by a computer personally are really going to hook it up to a network. though i could be wrong about that.
This only applies to WindowsXP Professional. Not the home version.
The way I read the article, it seemed to me that it applies to the Home Edition too, but the TWEAK to fix the problem does not apply to the Home Edition, but only to the PRO Edition. 😮
That could be possible. But I just made the change to my system (XP Pro) and it said in a little comment right on the screen that it only applied to Pro. So who knows, I guess. But it seems reasonable that Home wouldn’t even bother with this since this is something to improve server performance and such. Oh well. Whatever. Silly thing. 🙂
If you look at how MS has handled the system resources in the past, like memory and such, I would not doubt that the Pro version saves 20% of the network bandwidth so it can provide an open highway for the .NET framework when it is deployed. considering MS plans to make the Network into the PC (sound familier ; ) in the futuer, when blackcomb comes to fruition in 2005, I bet about 50% of bandwidth will bw reserver because MS plans to move most apps over to the services Idea. Word being servered up in C# from a .NET server can take a hue toll on the network 🙂
