“The installation of a new distribution from SuSE has for several years here been a battle between two conflicting issues: the install has a better than even chance of not going smoothly, but once the ordeal is survived it is quickly forgotten in the face of an excellent system. That was exactly the case here with SuSE 8.2 Professional.” Read the review at LinuxAndMain.

If SuSE is good enough for Linus, it’s good enough for me!!
I bought SuSE 8.2 last Saturday and have installed it on one of my machines. While SuSE is not my most favorite distro, it is very good and I have purchased every release since 1998.
The things I like most about SuSE are the configuration tools, and the language support (Japanese in particular). To me, SuSE is a very “beginner” friendly distro as well. I have installed it for several people who did not want to pay for Windows, and without exception, they have been very happy.
Does 8.2 provide good font support in OpenOffice.org? I know the default font display in the OpenOffice.org vanilla binaries are very poor…also, does anyone know of someone who builds OpenOffice.org for SuSE? I’d like to get 1.0.3 (with good font support).
Yes, it has good font support.
Does it have something like apt-get or any other installation tool that would resolve dependencies for itself?
Yes, it does. Unfortunately, this only works for the apps that come with SuSE, not with third party ones.
Just thought I mention, you can install 8.2 from a firewire dvd or cdrom, it’s the first distro that does that I think out of the box without extra configurations, or drivers disk. It installed great on my sony viao R505.
When will it be available for download?
