Here’s some recent news from the BeOS world. The OpenBeOS MIDI Kit team has reached Milestone 1! They now have their own now have their own midi_server and libmidi2.so.
Work on the BeOS-native video editor, PostMagic, is moving along well. A new screenshot was posted on the 1st. PostMagic version 1.0 is expected to be released around mid July. LeBuzz reports that Marcus Overhagen is writing a new Audio Card Driver API. The new API will get rid of some of the multi-source, multi-channel limitations inherent in older BeOS APIs.
Great News!
Thanks Osnews for reporting them.
PostMagic lookes cool, and MIDI, tjoohoooo.
Marcus you´re the one =)

great news! BeOS has the most powerful and versatile MIDI implementation except maybe MacOS X (because I don’t know MacOS X). And to know that we have it implemented in OSS, well, makes me sort of proud.
A little birdy told me there would soon be a big anouncement on the new name & other details. Still waiting.
Marcus Overhagen is indeed a king or perhaps an emperor =)
MidiKit moving along very well too and new apps coming to BeOS all the time…. now all that seems left is some kernel hackers to move from old Linux kernel to New amazing OBOS kernel and we got the best OS there is =))))
Keep up the good work guys, we love you for it!
GOOD LUCK!!!
I’m dying already to see OpenBeOS or whatever BeOS clone!
I hope that they’ll reach BeOS r5 and improve it and optimize it and make the best desktop there is!
GOOD LUCK!!!!
FROM ALL THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD!
WHEN BEOS WILL BE RE-RELEASED THERE WILL BE PEACE ON THE WORLD AND THERE WILL BE NO HUNGER, AND NO VIOLENCE, ONLY SMILES AND WEED!!!!

Jezuz man, there should be a minimum IQ for posting or something.
Agreed. I fear Linux coders, since they most probably have a very twisted perception of such concepts as good design and efficient coding. Especially considering how many are M£ convertites.
For the love of Pete people! BeOS is DEAD!!!
No, I’m just kidding. This looks very cool. I also deeply appreciate the screetshots. There’s nothing like eye treats to keep a shallow person like me happy and interested.
Too late
Sometimes I found amazing how BeOS user are stupid and without technological skills at all ! BeOS has some very good part and some awfull part like any other OS around the world.
Stop disgressing your lovely OS, you will only harm yourself (humm … the BeOS community I mean) at the end.
has finally paid the hosting fee to put BeDoper back online, with a new story:

“BeOS has some very good part and some awfull part like any other OS around the world”
OK You’re right.
90% of it is good and 10% of it bad.
Well I thing that these coders could fix this awfull 10%
unlike the other OSes that that the awfull part is most of them … ;o)
heheh, I await developments with eager anticipation
btw, good to see JLG has branched out
How exactly does this constitue being close to having a functional BeOS Clone?
Seems more like olympic navel gazing to me…
Yah Iconoclast BeOS might be dead, but OpenBeOS is alive ‘n’ kicking!
First R1 Second World Domination
YUHU!!!
Im Finally gonna say sumthing……yes Yes and YES! Go openBeos
YellowTab is about to release a new BeOS, with code licensed from Palm, OpenBeOS chugs forward and new apps are relased every day.
I am posting this from Mozilla 1.2 on BeOS.
Far from dead, me thinks.
1st of all: OSNews rulez !
Then, BeOS *was* a great OS, but Be Inc. made bad choices…
The Open Source movement *are* demostating their power, so I strongly hope in Ununumium…
Anyway, about linux (and not only) coders: more organization could be “productive”.
I think that companies like Echo, Creamw@re, TerraTec and… why not, Creative Labs should be a sort of “partner” for some interesting projects like OpenBeOS !!!
Yah Iconoclast BeOS might be dead, but OpenBeOS is alive ‘n’ kicking!
From your post I’m not exactly sure how you took my comment. Just in case you missed it, I was joking.
I personally do not want OpenBeOS to end up like Linux with dozens of different APIs for everything. So Marcus, keep it compatible and if it’s good, propose it as a new standard to BeUnited.
Is it just me or does Postmagic look A LOT like Final Cut on Mac?
