Nokia announced yesterday that they will transfer the Symbian Developers to Accenture. Regardless of what one feels about the merits of Symbian, this does seem like the end of the road. The proverbial selling of the horse to the glue factory.

I feel bad for Finland. By the time Elop is done Nokia probably won’t be a Finnish company anymore.
Me too. I was a Nokia employee until late 2007, when I got outsourced to TCS.
It is a pity to see the company self destruct like this.
My thoughts are with all Nokia employees now facing an unwanted change in their life.
They are also getting rid of 7000 employees, hard times for Nokia.
The 7000 are being transferred to Accenture, a consulting company. So they aren’t completely losing their jobs, but going from Nokia to Accenture is definitely a step down in terms of benefits and career outlook, IMHO. But Accenture is probably stoked about getting this huge influx of talent.
No, only 3000 are being transfered to Accenture and 4000 will lose their jobs.
So, its getting rid of 7000 employees.

You are correct. I got my numbers confused. Sorry for all those who are let go.
Watching the company self destruct like that. At least with Meego they had a chance to be interesting again. Without that they have nothing.
Now they’re just a hardware manufacturer in a country that does no actual manufacturing. Companies like HTC will do everything they do but better and cheaper.
Atleast there is RIM.
Stock perform somewhat like Nokia though ;D
What Im wondering is where this situations puts KDE developers sponsored by Nokia like Aaron Seigo and Marco Martin, who are they working for now? or even worse, will they get rid of them also.
Don’t know about the sponsorship (it’s such a tiny amount of money, I don’t see why they would bother to cancel it), but in general Nokia is not laying off personnel working on Qt.
Alright, it’s evil to mock living deads and all, but… the “other” results of Nokia’s “what would you do with a higher-res screen” poll are just hilarious.

BSOD jokes never get old
They are giving away control over their plataform.
