HP/Palm has officially released HP webOS 2.0 and the Pre 2, and Engadget has the first review of webOS 2.0 (not of the Pre 2, their device was a pre-production model). “Despite some issues, webOS 2.0 is probably neck and neck with iOS4 when it comes to polish and ease of use, and that’s a pretty huge thing for Palm. This isn’t just a good OS, it’s a great OS, and the updates in this version have made it even better. It’s obvious that when combined with even slightly better hardware, it’s also a fast experience that makes it easy to get real work done.”
I’m due for a phone upgrade, and this is really what I’ve been holding out for. The news that it is finally fast and has better battery life is exactly what I wanted to hear. I will probably buy the Pre 2 when it is released. Well, either that or wait just a little bit longer to see if they come out with a higher-res device….
I’m interested to know, definitively, whether or not an update to WebOS 2.0 will be made available for the original Palm Pre.
Facts, please–not opinion blogs. Has anyone come across any clear statements from HP/Palm or carriers on this? Links? Perhaps I’ve overlooked, but I have not seen any official statements clarifying. Thanks!
Ars is reporting that, “The Palm Pre 2 will ship with webOS 2.0. HP says that existing users of webOS devices will receive an over-the-air update to the new version in the coming months.”

I’m looking forward to it, but I sincerely hope HP markets it in a manner substantially different from that creepy, creepy woman.
I still shudder at the thought of her.
Admit it. You’d totally do her.
I know I would. Rawr.
What creepy woman? Is there a link to a commercial?
“What creepy woman? Is there a link to a commercial?”
OSnews.com readers; want to know where all the creepy ladies be. lol
One creepy Palm lady coming right up:

Oh, that creepy lady. I saw that commercial and you are right; it creeped me out so I changed the channel. Yeah, hope they don’t use that anymore.
I loved those ads… We have two Palm Pre’s in the house now because of those.
Looking forward to getting WebOS 2.0 on my Pre.
I’m excited about WebOS 2.0, but not so much for the Pre 2. It just strikes me as “slightly updated”. I am hopeful that they’ll release something newer and a bit more radical soon though.
I’ve been amazed by WebOS 2.0 ever since I got the beta preview for developers. Hopefully HP will get some new devices with modern hardware out and enter the Finnish market, I’ll be pre-ordering without hesitation!
IMHO, I feel that the webOS and Palm Pre are the best dual out there… but here’s the problem – Apple doesn’t own it.
The device and OS needs a company with sex appeal behind it. I’m not sure if that’s what we’ll get from HP – one can only hope.
Maybe if HP started a daughter consumer-focused company specifically to market them… that would be cool.
