Moho is a 2D vector-based cartoon animation application for Windows and Macs, created by Lost Marble. It is not an ink & paint tool that requires you to draw and scan each frame of your animation – Moho provides the complete set of tools you need to create an animated cartoon, from drawing and coloring to keyframe animation, multi-layer compositing and final rendering of QuickTime and AVI movie files. Moho can be used to create animation for video, film, or streaming over the web and you can now be one of the three lucky OSNews readers to win a free, full copy of Moho 4.0.1.Moho contains a vector-based drawing component, making it suitable for illustration tasks as well. The animation tools include manipulators for controlling skeletons – useful for working with characters, and a huge timesaver compared to traditional hand-drawn animation. Moho works with text the same as any other primitive object, making it useful for simple video titling up through any complex text deformation you can dream up. For more features make sure you check out here while you can view some screenshots here or download the demo here.
Things you need to know before entering the competition:
Good luck everyone!
The competition is now closed. Thank you everyone for taking part. The winners will be announced Friday, Dec 06, 2002.
I remember when this was on BeOS. Very cool tool, Im glad that Lost Marble has managed to keep it up. Im really looking forward to this.
You can still download the demo of Moho for BeOS, in its last incarnation (v2.5), here: http://www.lostmarble.com/downloads/moho_beosx86_2.5.zip
I remember I did a review of Moho for BeNews a few years back…
Moho is really fun!
For lip syncing audio tools to use with Moho, Magpie and Magpie PRO does the job great: http://www.thirdwishsoftware.com/magpiepro.html
for the contest question, are we limited by cartoon type?
moho only does 2d cell style animation. are those the only cartoons we should answer with? would claymation cartoons like wallace & grommit or gumby be out? and would 3d computer animations like shrek be out too?
You’re not limited in the sense that it would affect the competition – i.e. we won’t disqualify you if you answer “Pokemon”.
We specifically asked about “cartoon” in order to lean towards 2D cel style animation, but if you prefer to answer “Wallace & Grommit” you’re welcome to do so. (I’d rank Wallace & Grommit pretty high up there myself.)
I would love to win a copy of that app, but I’m only using Linux.. :{
Are there any plans for a Linux port?
Eugenia, while you can find demos of Moho 2.5 for BeOS, it’s impossible to have a key, even if you’re willing to pay for it. I tried.
And yes, Moho is fun.
No, we have no plans for a Linux port.
What would I do with 3 copies?
If I win I’ll gladly contribute the other two to other lucky winners.
Share and Enjoy!
That’s more than the one recently of TheKompany. 🙂
What about a back port to BeOS? I’m not saying now, but if and when Zeta or Open Beos become somewhat popular.
>What would I do with 3 copies?
Each person only wins one.
I dont know about the rest of you, but I am running GENTOO, i emerged wine, and installed moho, So far so good. I am reading up on how to use it, once I know that I can tell you if it works good or not.
I hope I win!
forgot to mention the install of moho and wine went flawlessly, I did not have to tweak anything. The program launches and I *seem* to be able to use the application. /me still playing w/ it.
/me still playing w/ it.
I wanna watch.
Okay its confirmed, it works fine under wine, and not 1 crash yet. So theres your linux port!
we won’t disqualify you if you answer “Pokemon”.
However, we will drag you out into the middle of the street, remove all of your body hair with a rusty bread knife, cover you with honey and fire-ants, before dragging you 6 miles through the scrub behind a Land Cruiser.
All the while screaming “Peek-at-bloody-you” in your face.
{You think that is bad? Show me the writer of the series…}
But I don’t like the new (well old now) interface, it looked better as a BeOS app
Even under BeOS it was looking like that…
Not the first few version, it had a BeOS-like interface, I’m sure of it.
No, your right, it always had a custom interface, I must be thinking of a diff app.
As far as i remember with older BeOS versions (2.1 or so), if you get Windows license, you can use same key for BeOS and vice versa.
Though, maybe it is illegal, because i didn’t notice multiplatform license info on their site
