Can’t wait two more days? Microsoft Technet has a free 90 day trial of Windows 7 Enterprise for your evaluation pleasure. If you’ve been using the Windows 7 RC, this one is likely to have a bunch of bug fixes, as several bugs have been reported in earlier versions of the Windows 7 RTM that were made available to developers, including a pretty serious CHKDSK bug.
I think the chkdsk bug has been well explained and isn’t as bad as you make out.
It is, in fact, not a bug at all. The great memory usage is by design. This article should be corrected ASAP.
Indeed. Bug was in Intel(if I remember correct) drivers that caused BSOD during chkdsk. High memory consuming was new design in chkdsk in order to decrease time that it takes. I feel sad that Osnews editors knowledge of technical details is level of Engadget editor.
Too bad you have to reinstall it after trial expires, since you can’t buy enterprise edition. Guess I’ll go with OEM when its out..
One would have to be absolutely crazy to install Windows 7 in Australia:

Horrendous rip-off prices. And that is just the bare OS, after that for Windows one is expected to pay punitive prices for suitable applications:

look at this for example:
Photoshop CS3 (Full) $1619.00 !!!!!
Unbelievable. Extortion! compare that with:
GIMP 2.6 (Full) $0.00 !!!!
This is such an outrageous rip-off it makes one’s blood boil, especially so when you consider that one can get an easy-to-install and far faster and more functional OS and applications for the cost of a DVD download:

If however one doesn’t want to risk going with something quite so experimental, then Kubuntu Karmic 9.10 will be out in about a weeks time.
I’ll say. Since I can get the whole spectrum of software and applications legally for no cost, why would I let these marketing idiots try to fleece me?

Do you have to pollute every article related to Microsoft with this bulk Linux advocacy? It is annoying.
OK, sorry. I react very badly to commercial companies trying to rip people off. When it is as blatant a rip-off as Windows 7 in my country, I had to say something somewhere.
I get so angry.
