Apple has released a SDK for Sherlock 3, the company’s Web Services tool. “Everything required to develop a channel is provided in the Sherlock 3 Channel SDK. The SDK includes technical documentation, a sample channel, a Project Builder template, and an Interface Builder Sherlock palette,” according to Apple. In the meantime, Watson 1.6 was released and includes integration with the EyeTV DVR, iCal, and the MacOSX Address Book. On other important for the Mac platform releases, WebObjects 5.2 and BBEdit 7.0 was released. Get more OSX software from VersionTracker.
…they might as well do it properly. I guess I’m happy to see this…

The subject line says it all. I’ve seen Sherlock in action on my fiance’s Mac and would like something like it on my notebook running XP Pro.
Eventually, there will be something similar to Sherlock for Windows. Not specifically a Windows project, but it’ll be for Dynapad, which is based on Squeak, so one will be able to run it on most computers- Windows, all Macs, BeOS, RISC OS, just about every Unix… And yes, it’s not just an idea, I’ve started work on it. Nothing to release yet. Perhaps I should take some screenshots of the prototype.
It’s cool to see some of the ideas I thought of while browsing through the Sherlock SDK.
While the creators of Watson seems to think that Sherlock’s use of JavaScript and XQuery instead of Cocoa bundles is a weakness, I think it’s a good thing, allowing rapid development of Sherlock 3 plugins. Too bad either Sherlock or Watson doesn’t provide both the JavaScript/XQuery and ObjC means of channel development.
Eugenia: Also, how is the OSNews Sherlock-clone project going? Is anyone working on it, or was it just a whim that never came to even beginning fruitition?
>Any palns to create an OSnews channel ?
Not really. OSNews offers XML RDF/RSS newsfeeds (scroll down the page), all you have to do is setup it on your feed app.
>Also, how is the OSNews Sherlock-clone project going?
AFAIK, no one is working on it. Someone started working, and he found it too hard, so he gave up.
Oh, and RevAaron, please read the guide underneath the posting form on how to create links here.
Bummer no one is working on it. Around the end of January you may not have it like you wanted, written in Qt, but it will be more cross-platform and most importantly, real and runnable.
D’oh, I keep forgetting that. I’m used to sites where you can only do bold, italics and links, and I keep forgetting OS News isn’t one of those. Oh well, in a less mangled form:

You can’t do links though.
… and graphical smileys, and other stuff you could do with a forum supporting UBB code.
Besides, on this Watson clone thingy, is it similar to Copernic?
Nope.
I replied on this in the past, Copernic doesn’t compare.
