hahaha, a nice laugh after installing server 2k8 in my pc, repairing my video card, and yes, that is the kind of heroic sh@3 ill be telling my grandson! hehehe
While I can see it wasn’t meant as any kind of jibe against the armed forces, and I doubt many servicemen would take any offense at it, the punchline maybe is a bit of a hard sell in these times, when there are a growing number of future grandads in our society who’ll have their own tales of the horror of war to tell their little ones (in the happy circumstance that they return in one piece).
It probably didn’t help that I’d just watched Nick Broomfield’s “The Battle for Haditha” before reading the strip, mind you — harrowing stuff
I was thinking about that just the other day, about how every generation had something heroic to talk about. WWI, WWII, and even Vietnam War to a certain extent. Today, what do we have? “I went to war to pay for college and get chicks, nobody told me I had to kill people for real or I’d lose a limb!!” In the future, our generation will be known for being lazy, playing video games and having done next to nothing for society as a whole.
Welcome our new “Door Overlords”.

nice nice!!!
I’m sure those in the armed forces really appreciate you comparing their loss of life and limb to a video game.
Oh jeez…get off it already.
it’s a COMIC
Edited 2008-03-18 00:24 UTC
ditto, god, the funniest thing of this comics are the comments but some people take it WAY too seriously…
go ahead change the world… fighting one comic at a time…
hehehe
Some of us probably take it too seriously when there’s not much to laugh at, although I get it and all … I still do not find it funny …
This, however, cracks me up every time:
‘Wenn ist das Nunstück Git und Schlotermeyer? -ja, Beierhund das oder die Flipperwald gersput!’
….but then again, that’s the funniest joke in the world
Achtung, alles Lookenspeepers!
Hey, be careful, man! I’m from Germany! I read… I… uh… urhg… aaahhh!!! Hahaha! *umkipp*
Noo pogodee, sayats! Payback tme, take this:
“Neff seetsay oozed, oun-oozed marned on /boat disk lebble teep on h-d-a-b ext.2 createeva prameer partetsyoun delled, starte manool kvartedd, enarble klopp unrecobnes: You moost specifesha te feely system teep. Shaare knoppix installer pee par poe oonknoff future, cool not detect error error error in defeese map of boat starge: butt opsyoun, dismanny rally on hard disk, segsyoun resoloot, secury scanner.”
I hear it every day. 🙂

I’m sure most of them, as opposed to you, have enough brains to understand that they’re not the ones being made fun of.
Argh. Don’t be an idiot.
Trust me, compared to black-humor-jokes * that I’ve heard in the army, this one is benign. (Though I did spill my coffee out of my nostrils…)
– Gilboa
* E.g. (Translated into bad English)
“What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger,
What does kill you, makes your mother stronger…”
To be entirely fair:
Been to school perhaps?
Good comic though!
Thanks for the correction! my self-taught English obviously requires some polishing
The lines are grey. They could easily be made dark, by using auto-adjusted levels. That would look nicer.
German bullets in Omaha? Is it “A” in geography or some kind of irony?
Or an F in history for you?
I ain’t talking about Omaha, Nebraska, here. Omaha was the codename for one of the landing beaches in Normandy during D-Day.

How can you ask that?
Haven’t you ever:
* Went to school?
* Read a book?
* Watched The History Channel?
* Played Medal of Honor?
Man…
Good comic Thom, keep it up.
No, it’s an A in history for “Omaha Beach”.
Jim Morrison would be very proud of you comics!
How bout a comic where there is a tomb stone (like the zebuntu one). The name on it is PC hardware innovation, and the date is from 1980-1993
But….but….that’s not humor–that’s tragedy!
