Finally! Some reasonable handling of multiple monitors in X. Plugging in projectors and getting them to work is an embarrassment in the current X11. I wouldn’t dare use my linux installation when I’m teaching, because chances are I would never be able to get the damn display to export to the projector properly. I can’t wait until this hits distributions.

Maybe, there will be great improvements to the handling of the video output as another display device (or a “copy” of the DVI or VGA display content). The article mentions it.
I know, this is not the “I have an ancient AGP graphics card” help forum, but does anybody know how to get the ATI Technologies Inc. RV250 Radeon 9000/9000 Pro to use the video output? (Purpose: Usage in amateur radio television (ATV) for outputting video signal, while video input is done via a Brooktree Corporation Bt878 MediaStream Controller.)
It would be great to have GPU driver independant standards here. The comments regarding RANDR sound very interesting and promising!

i would just like to know :
to use all this , and have a Xserver with all features supported and working fast ( fast beryl and movies ), what video card should i buy ?

Intel is the only driver where this stuff is actually working currently. I’m using randr 1.2 on my Lenovo 3000 V100 laptop (i945 chipset) with a 12″, 1280×800 internal display and a 20″, 1680×1050 external display; it works very nicely. We’ll likely have some experimental packages for this in MDV Cooker soon (and thus MDV 2007.1), and I know there are some third-party packages for Ubuntu Edgy.
From what I’ve read, the open source ATI driver is close to having the randr 1.2 stuff usable. Other drivers aren’t really on the radar yet.

how does beryl work with it ?!
is it smooth ? does it use alot of the cpu ?!
It was supposed to be released weeks ago, and I still haven’t heard anything about it. Is it going to be released any time soon?
