After a nine-month long beta run, Microsoft on Wednesday announced the final version of Office Live, which provides a first outline of the firm’s Internet services vision. Other than the name may suggest, Office Live is not an extension of Word and Excel, but a service hosting package that makes it easier for small businesses to establish their presence on the Internet.
i installed office 2007 for work (we have an msdn universal subscription) and i have to say that it’s quite nice. i think the interface is a lot cleaner and nicer to look at compared to office 2003. this is running on windows xp sp2.
i have tried outlook and powerpoint and they’re very cool. you don’t have that obnoxious file, view, edit, menubar across the top, instead everything’s iconified. wish i had the energy to do a full review with screenshots.
there are minor issues with any first release of this magnitude. outlook for instance has a weird bug where if you’re in the inbox view, new mail doesn’t show up in the folder even though you see (in parantheses) the number of new mails available. you have to click on another folder and then back to inbox to update the email list view. i can’t believe that they didn’t pick that one out, especially with a beta program… probably someone fixed something else that broke compatability and then ohhhh shit it’s time to freeze code, run light regression testing, and ship! yay!
oh, this article is about office live. i think that stuff is really cool, you can get a free domain name for your small business.
Interesting bug. Are you using Exchange or POP?
For a split second I thought Microsoft took another feature out of something:
“Microsoft Takes Office Live Out of ______”
Fill in the blank
Vista?
The Wastebin? :p
(hey, they did it before!)
definitely not pop.
