It’s the end of an era: Apple is officially discontinuing the iPod touch. The company says that the device will be available only “while supplies last.” This also means that the “iPod” brand is officially retired, as the iPod touch was the last iPod in Apple’s lineup.

The iPod was one of the most iconic product lines in recent history, and now, it’s something nobody ever even talks about anymore. Apple was willing to cannibalise its own iPod success with the iPhone, and it paid off.
I’ll probably get hate from the Apple fanboys but screw it truth is truth and the truth is a good 90% of iPods were what I call “E-Waste Specials” that made it such a living hell to replace the battery on them that they are now rotting in a dumpster somewhere. Hell Dankpods on YT keeps Nanos in his “explody jar” in his backyard as it is damn near impossible to change the battery once it begins to fail and bulge and they have such a nasty tendency to explode or catch fire he won’t even allow them in his home!
Meanwhile a huge chunk of those with user replaceable batts, either the triple A types like the Sandisk or the standard cellphone batts like the iRivers? Still work perfectly fine. Hell I have a Sandisk from 2006 I still use for walks or listening to music before bed to keep from draining my phone and even after 16 years it will play for 27 hours on a rechargeable triple a, good luck getting an iPod from 2006 to run without major surgery and a soldering iron just to replace the batt.
The iPod Touch is an iOS device; it’s an iPhone-sized iPad, or an iPhone without the phone. The only thing it has in common with the original or even late iPod Nano is the name. The iPod was a media player which played music and, later, video (and had a basic voice recorder). The iPod Touch is a PDA. I suspect it’s not been profitable for a while because nobody needs a small PDA; people are more likely to have a smartphone than a few years ago, and if someone wants iOS apps, they’ll get an iPhone rather than an Android phone, which has its own apps and is a perfectly capable PDA, as well as an iPod Touch. The iPod died in 2017; it’s only the name that lingered on until now.
