GNOME 2.12 has been released for AIX 5.1/5.2/5.3. You can get both the binaries as well as the source in .rpm format here. The maintainers have dropped support for AIX 4.3.3 and for GNOME 2.2.1 through 2.8. On a related note, GTK+ 2.8.10 has been released.
what about an openvms port for itanium?
Just a question (cause I am really not interested to try it out myself), does the console still get spammed with error messeses about destroyed objects still being monitored and such when you exit to the console?
I never cared enough to find out if such things are actually an issue, or if they are safely ignored, but it always raised an issue in my mind about the quality of GNOME in general. I’ve noticed it on every version of GNOME I have tried on a variety of OSes…
It’s because verbose is turned on in gnome(you can turn it off). By the way it happens with KDE as well.
My graphic card is under repair, and I am using an old one only allowing for 1024×768 on my 19” monitor. Which lead to an unpleasant surprise: GTK+ gadgets look “bulky”, it seems there is too much unused space around text; sure, I reduced font size immediately, and that helped, but they still look unwieldy to me.
Has anyone noticed this issue before? Or is it just a figment of my imagination?

No I haven’t noticed such an issue with Gnome 2.12.2 on SUSE Linux 10. Though you mentioned “My graphics card is under repair” which leads me to believe the issue is with your hardware or possibly graphics driver related. Check your Linux distribution system logs to try and narrow down the actual cause. In case you’re curious I use a variety of NVIDIA based graphics cards with SUSE Linux both DCC (Digital Content Creation) and non-DCC graphics cards. The lower end model in the LAN would be the Geforce 6600 GT. All have the current graphics driver 8178 from NVIDIA installed.
Everything looks too big and bulky in both Gnome and KDE. Nothing can touch windows classic. Sleek and fast.
i’ve noticed it on my laptop (1280×800)… it’s one of the main reasons i avoid using GTK+ apps…
Buttons and menus may be too big in GTK+ because it displays icons in them. Since the icons are 24×24, the buttons and menus have to be bigger to display them.
You can change this behaviour by adding the following to the .gtkrc-2.0 file:
gtk-button-images = 0
gtk-menu-images = 0
This will disable the icons, and the widgets will look smaller. (Note: if you use GNOME, you must also disable the icons in menus in Desktop -> Preferences -> Menus & Toolbars).
If you like, the Redomond engine will make GTK+ look exactly like Windows classic. But that’s just too ugly compared to Clearlooks, specially the cairo enabled Clearlooks in GNOME 2.13.
