There have been some interesting updates over at SkyOS. First of all, it now has a VNC viewer, so you can control other computers from SkyOS. Another interesting addition are a set of VMWare tools; SkyOS now has full clipboard integration with the host OS when running in VMWare. Also added is seamless mouse integration, so you can just move your mouse to the edge of the VMWare window, and it will automatically ungrab it. There have been more changes, you can see the most prominent on SkyOS’s website. For the under-the-hood changes, see the changelog.
Mad props go to vorte[x] for the VMware tools, to Darkness for the weather service, and to Lukas for Subnecto, VNC viewer, and some other various ports.
Nice work guys. SkyOS continues to improve steadily.

Not as much as he used to, unfortunately. I actually liked the slightly older WindUI look better than what we have at the moment.
( And btw. I don’t like round corners. We need a good ol’ NextStep’ish theme to ‘old’ grumpy guys like me :p )

Don’t look at the GTK part – just look at the titel bar. I like that look more, though the min./max./close buttons are to much candy in my eyes. A bit more crystalized look would be much better.

I had a look at the screenshots and I don’t see it as being designed after OS X. Besides the icons in a toolbar type widget at the bottom of the screen I’m really not seeing any special resemblance. If you see something I don’t feel free to point it out.
I suppose the toolbar on the top does resemble the one from OS X to some slight degree.
Look at the taskbar (or whatever it’s called). It resembles The Dock to me.
You mean the taskbar at the top or that “dock” application at the bottom?
This dock is a third party application named Subnecto. I don’t think a dock implies MAC OS X style. Even windows had it since windows 98! It’s called quick launch.
SkyOS is coming along fine as usual!

The rate at which SkyOS progresses is quite impressive. There are only a few developers on it, aren’t there?
Either way, it’s probably the most interesting new OS out there.
Personally, I will probably only try final, but not use it for more than a day. I’m waiting for a second iteration to put some more polish on it.
Yeah,I just hope Beta 10 (when it comes) are more stable on my system than Beta 9. But it doesn’t change the fact that it’s really interesting.
And I like the approach so far, including porting applications until (if users want this) a native application has been written.
I’m not sure it’s the most interesting OS but I’m definitely eager to see what the future will bring.

Given the number of OS choices today, I can’t see SkyOS becoming anything more than a niche OS used by a few hard-core hobbiests.

It’s not about the number of choices, but how this OS compares to the other choices that will or will not get it users.

There is one thing you might not have thought about here. Currently there is no official company behind SkyOS. No programmers that have to be paid, no investors that need to be kept happy, it’s just Robert working in his spare time.
So while not selling many products at this stage of development, he is not going bankrupt from this fact.
I believe he is starting a business with this OS,weather it is public or not. He has a business relation manager and several people working on various parts of the os. If he pays them is none of our business.
