Google has told its Turkish business partners it will not be able to work with them on new Android phones to be released in Turkey, after the Turkish competition board ruled that changes Google made to its contracts were not acceptable.
Totalitarian governments are increasingly using their subjects’ smartphones as tools for exerting their totalitarian control. Don’t be surprised if the Turkish government will soon mandate Turkish-made software on smartphones sold in the country, just like Russia mandated not too long ago.
This news item is totally twisted. Turkish Competition Board is an independent entity similar to Federal Trade Commission. The decision was not about enforcing use of particular software but about freedom to choose default search engine, which you claim to cherish. This news item only makes sense if you are baised against Turkey for any reason!!

I would call Turkey “totalitarian”, considering their political leadership has been elected and unfavourable election results to the current political leadership do happen (like the municipal elections in Instanbul or the fact the Kurdish party got seats in the parliament).
Freedom of speech is an issue in Turkey, but since they are muslims they probably like it that way (don’t offend the prophet etc etc, their mind is wired into accepting censorship)
