The change, first discovered by iOS Developer Hiraku Wang, means that users with an iOS device region set to Hong Kong will see one less flag on the emoji keyboard than if the region is set to anywhere else in the world (other than China mainland, which also hides this flag).
Notably, the emoji 🇹🇼 Flag: Taiwan is still supported by iOS in Hong Kong. As of iOS 13.1.2, released last week, this is now hidden from the emoji keyboard but remains available by other means.
Geopolitics on your emoji keyboard.
Last week we had an emergency release to remove the word “Country” from almost anywhere in our websites forms because Hong-Kong also appeared on the list.
Times are getting interesting.
Where are those USA proud companies that used to impose their own vision of the world all around ? Is Trump agreeing to bend down before China ? Is it just PR BS ?
Kochise:
Trump is kicking $300B worth of Chinese butt using American consumers as the boot.
These “USA proud companies” are American companies in head office only. Large corporations are post-country / super-national. If you look at a resource deployment map Apple is probably more of a Chinese company at this stage. Whereas Hummer, which is owned by Chinese folks, would be still more of a US company.
So what, Corporations do the building of states who have power over them as long as they make money. Why not get outraged by Adobe banning the use of its products in Venezuela on behalf of the US as it’s not going to get away with bullying China anymore.
I notice you have no problem complaining about the USA’s goofiness but when it comes to actual censorship and actual tyrants in the world, you kind of bow out and say “oh, geopolitics”. Coward.
What? I condemn China left, right, and centre. Wtf are you on about?
Idiot.
Western hypocrites, why would you criticize China’s human rights abuses and genocidal dictatorship, when your own countries are wreaking havoc all over Libya, Syria and Iraq, creating humanitarian crisis all the way? Remove the beam in your own eyes, before you criticize others.
The face of the US we saw here in Asia is Rubio and other senators who dictate us on what to do. Hypocrites.
Whataboutism rears its ugly head!
