VSI is porting OpenVMS to x86-64. The company has done a lot of work, and it is beginning to bear fruit. Recently they’ve managed to boot the kernel and perform a DIR
command. Grand steps indeed.
Truly amazing work!

Sweet. We had Vax machines at De La Salle University’s College of Computer Science.
Cool that they’re porting to another architecture. But I wonder if there is a customer base large enough to support the porting effort commercially once they are done.
All serious commercial sw development on OpenVMS ceased long ago. And other than support contracts its basically EOLd as a platform, regardless on which processor it runs on.
