IronPython is the codename for an alpha release of the Python programming language for the .NET platform.
It supports an interactive interpreter with fully dynamic compilation. It is well integrated with the rest of the framework and makes all .NET libraries easily available to Python programmers.

    Anything like this coming out for Perl? Or more specifically/accurately, is there any way I can take my LWP/screen scraping routines from Perl, import them into some kind of module, and then call them from a C# program?

    Is there a Ruby.Net project?

    No, it’s just a lot of ‘web scraping’ code (with authentication, cookies, SSL, etc) that I have written in Perl using the LWP module. I need to write a pretty sophisticated (as in not TK) GUI around this thing, so I’d like to be able to somehow leverage the code I already have, instead of having to rewrite it in something else. Not to mention .. do any languages (Ruby, Python, C#, Java, etc) have something that is equivalent to Perl’s LWP?

      I don’t know LWP, but judging from some LWP examples there is some support for this kind of thing in the Python standard library, and if that’s not enough you can also try some stuff from http://wwwsearch.sourceforge.net/

      I’m assuming if it gives you access to all the .Net libraries, you can develop whatever kind of application you want. And of course it will be integrated into VS…virtually all of the existing couple dozen languages targeting .Net are integrated.

      I don’t know if I’d want to build an entire website with Python though…it’s better as a glue/DS/integration language, which .Net will very much benefit from. Time will tell.
