Executives of Japan’s Access said the company’s $324.3 million proposal, announced Friday, would not have an immediate impact on the more than 39 million Palm-powered devices made by Palm and more than 40 other manufacturers, including Japan’s Sony and Kyocera, and South Korea’s Samsung Electronics.
Someone, take an interview with some Access executive and ask them The Question – what are they going to do with the BeOS source code?
Because when my Palm IIIxe dies I won’t be buying anything that runs the proprietary piece of shit Microseft Windows Mobile or whatever they call it now.
I find all this a little depressing I must say. All the major OSs you can use are old, old tech. This is a bit of an indicator why to me. No-one is able (willing?) to make a fresh start and just keep buying and upgrading old tech. I think PalmOS is probably the most modern (in terms of age) OS I use, but linux is old. Just to make my point
– mac os (Mach and BSD)
– windows (I think it was VMS they based it off wasn’t it?)
– palm os (soon to be linux)
Just so boring and depressing.

If i Remember correctly Japan loved beos. it supposedly had an incredibly easy to use interface for inputting kanji. mabey they will open source beos?
