I really enjoyed the “OS/2 in the living room” article. Sums up what you can _STILL_ do with eCom || OS/2 nowadays.
Regards
OS/2 could have ruled the desktop but instead that pile of shit called Windows 3.11 won. A real shame. Makes you wonder how can people like Balmer sleep at night knowing that what they sell is pure horseshit.
Better dead than use Microseft!
I used OS/2 for a couple of years in the late 90s. I bought Warp 3 and upgraded to Warp 4 a year or so later. I loved it! It was stable and far more configurable than Windows. Once I added Stardock’s Object Desktop to it, I had the perfect system. OK there was one flaw. I couldn’t find any software for it and I couldn’t afford the subscription model IBM was pushing so I couldn’t get updates. That’s what killed it for me and I was very sad to see it go. Windows was never quite as fun. However, I am getting into Linux now and I see some real possibilities (I’m actually becoming quite the Xandros fan).
Anyways, I admire the people of VOICE who have hung on so admirably. You’ve got a great OS there. Good for you!

“It should play music (MP3) as well as videos (MPEG), and I would also like to view pictures (photos).”
:] I (me) really (indeed) had fun (enjoyed) reading (browsing through) the article (text) on the linked web page (text with hyperlinks)
/* OS/2 just rocks. Still. */

I cry aloud with mirth and merriment.

Owwww, Come one…. 🙂
Music in this context could mean a lot of things, like ogg files, vqf files, wmf files and such. The guy just added the note for the sake of clarity. Same for video (He evens warned on the article that he already had an appliance dedicated to record TV shows into DVDs, so he didn´t need his Multimedia PC to do it… See, I did it, too! :-)).
But I have to agree with the pictures (photos) thing: Who the hell spends time browsing pictures on his living room other than family and/or travel photos? 😛
Cheers,

eComStation (OS/2) is used in many areas — http://ecomstation.ru/solutions/?action=solutions
So, one more success story.. I like this!
articles on of course IBM quitting support for OS/2
I don’t remember seeing IBM ever supporting the thing.
Great system though, I think it is still being used on most of France Telecom desktops.
It was dead stable. A bit ugly but stable.
