Apple’s released both OS X 10.11.1…
Apple today released OS X 10.11.1, which is the first update to the new El Capitan operating system that was launched to the public on September 30. In testing since mid-September, OS X 10.11.1 is a minor performance update that focuses on fixing bugs found in the first version of El Capitan.
iOS 9.1 has a limited number of outward facing changes. It includes support for Unicode 7 and 8, introducing a range of new emoji like taco, burrito, cheese wedge, middle finger, champagne bottle, unicorn head, and more.
iOS 9.1 includes an update for Live Photos, which now sense when the iPhone is raised or lowered to refrain from recording unnecessary movements. The update also introduces a new Messages option in the Settings app that is designed to allow users to disable photos for contacts, and it brings Apple News to the UK for the first time.
Apple also released an update for the iPhone Mini, but nobody cares.

Yup. I’m not sure if its a mass market product. However it ifs better than the pebble at notifying ( with the haptic engine and all), It might become a better solution for people who absolutely need vibration based notifications. Which, is probably pretty niche.
That’s a very good description of the Apple Watch’s real value. Personally, I find it extremely useful. But it’s not for everybody.

I finally invested in a 2015 apple macbook pro 13″. Beefed up with 16gb ram and a faster than default CPU.
Even after all these updates it still has a laggy UI and worst of all it can’t drive full screen video (YouTube, BBC iPlayer) on the attached 4k display. Yes it’s scaled down, clamshell mode so only one display really, and the display is mentioned on apples website as supported NEC ea244uhd.
Emojis seem to be a priority over basic functions that my old thinkpad x121e with 2Gb ram and i3 cpu didn’t struggle with, albeit only 1080p
Your mistake was picking 13″ instead of 15″
My family have both, top spec’ed, and the 15″ blows the 13″ out of the water and has no problem with 4K externally. Not sure why, but it’s a fact.
Probably because your 15″ comes with descreet graphics rather than onboard.
That said Iris Pro should be good enough to play some videos.
Well, 13″ starts at 1300 dollar, 15″ starts at 2000. Spending 700 dollar for 4K support sounds a bit excessive don’t you think?
On a serious note, both 13″ and 15″ should of course be perfectly capable of running 4K content. Just have a look at http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/specs-retina/ under graphics and video support. Although the graphic cards differ they are all listeds as fully supporting 3840 by 2160 on external displays, although not at 60 fps!
Support for 3840-by-2160 resolution at 30Hz
Support for 4096-by-2160 resolution at 24Hz
4K support, much better performance and a useful screensize.
Well worth the money in my experience.
He could build a 4K capable desktop with that $700, Mr Trump.
Given that he picked the 13″, I took a wild guess and assumed portability was important.
Solution? Sell the 13″, get the 15″.
top spec’ed the 15″ has the “AMD Radeon R9 M370X with 2GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching” so “Support for up to 5120-by-2880 resolution at 60Hz on a single external display (model with AMD Radeon R9 M370X only)”
It doesn’t have MUCH better performance though. Both have 16GB of RAM, the same SSD and the 13″ has a higher clocked duocore i5 vs a lower clocked quadcore i7. Of course the dedicated graphics card on the 15″ can make a huge difference for some games and specialized software but in general I would say that the 13″ and 15″ have comparable performance. Both should surely be capable of playing 4K (it even says so on the page I linked to).
Surely you don’t need the 2500 dollar Apple laptop to play 4K

I have the high end 13″ for work, 16gb of ram, and i7-5550u cpu. It seems much smoother after El Capitan, but I mostly use Linux within a VMware Fusion container for work, because Mac OS bugs me
But it definitely isn’t the ‘starts at 1300’ variety, I priced it out (company provided) and it was like 2600 or so.
Having both, I can assure you that’s not the case. The 15″ is much faster on all areas. Two reasons: OSX dynamically downclocks the 13″ very quickly even when Connected to power. Second, memory bandwidth benchmarking is telling…

It’s all relative – Apple sold 20 times as many phones in the same period, so yeah, it’s a “flop” by those metrics. Almost 4M per quarter would excite many companies, but not someone like Apple.
