I missed those initially and I apologize for that, although it would be good to know how Netscape is using an OS that did not exist until very recently.
It says they are “a company that has a proven track record in innovative BSD design, development, and deployment”. That doesn’t mean that “proven track record” was gained with this SilverOS product, but other “innovative BSD design, development, and deployment” services they have provided.
Sheesh.

We already know it’s a great server OS, but I’d like to see it BSD in Hollywood.
The Matrix’s CGI, the movie, was done in FreeBSD. You can search for ‘the matrix freebsd’ in google.com and you should find few first links about it. I think, they have like over 20 or 30 machines that are running FreeBSD as the Render Farm.

BSD is already used in the movie industry (VOD servers, satellite CDN edge caching, etc.)

You’re right. FreeBSD was used in the Matrix. I was aware of that and I probably should have mentioned it in my original post.
Without even googling for it, I believe it was Manix (or something like that – too lazy to look it up) studios that did it, right?
All I know is that they did some damn good work! The original Matrix is still my favorite.

And now we have a product that might not have existed with the ridiculous GPL. Is the Apple community worse off because of OSX? I think not.
Two most popular Open Source programs are NOT gpl.(Mozilla and Apache)
Hopefully one day the fsf will be free of the myth that software grows on trees and only services or modifications are worth selling.

I don’t see why I should buy this OS when I could buy Solaris or just use FreeBSD,etc.

Much like FreeBSD’s own new installer. Get with the times and port DragonFly’s new installer. It works, and it’s extensible.
