What a waste !
by Mark on Tue 5th Aug 2003 21:58 UTC

The website is well designed, it probably costs a lot of money to host and maintain it. Such a waste only for a joke ?

I wonder which they prefer to use mono.

by pi on Tue 5th Aug 2003 22:01 UTC

How are they supposed to get jobs if their website looks like it was build by a monkey and not an ape?!?

re: What a waste!
by Traal on Tue 5th Aug 2003 22:17 UTC

How are we supposed to get jobs if they're taken over by lower-paid simians? :-)

so..
by zephc on Tue 5th Aug 2003 22:18 UTC

it's either a joke site, or the guy has a very low opinion of his employees ;)

SCO and PPI
by Paolo on Tue 5th Aug 2003 22:21 UTC

I don't know if it's better this joke or the SCO one... I am still laughing for both...

Disturbing...
by Loic HG on Tue 5th Aug 2003 23:18 UTC

Isn't there a deeply racist undernote to this joke, given that most of the exported programming jobs tend to go to ethnically specific countries like India or China ?

RE: Disturbing...
by Anonymous on Tue 5th Aug 2003 23:21 UTC

Only if you think people of those races resemble primates. I don't, do you?

RE:Traal
by BR on Tue 5th Aug 2003 23:29 UTC

Social commentary on the IT industry. So easy, even a monkey can do it.

Maybe not Racist, but Social Satire
by ricky yamauchi on Tue 5th Aug 2003 23:32 UTC

Maybe it's not meant to make fun of people, but point out how some people are treated in sweatshops.

Creative, but I didn't find the funnyparts very well. If you go to their domainname with no sub-directories, you find that newtechusa is actually a real company. I don't know if this is the work of a prankster employee or actually sanctioned by the company. My suggestion is that it be mirrored in case the company finds out and kills it.

Read the fine print
by scott on Wed 6th Aug 2003 00:19 UTC

It's obviously satire, and NewTechUsa is well aware of its existence. ;) Read their legal info:

The NewTechDaily™ and Primate Programming™ Inc ("PPI") are satirical publications

Funny Dilbert cartoon on outsourcing
by Out of the blue on Wed 6th Aug 2003 00:23 UTC
fantastic - i hope it works well
by tech_user on Wed 6th Aug 2003 00:58 UTC

personally i think the whole idea is fantastic - go for it! i hope it works well - its about time someone injected a bit of creative humour into the software development industry - and what an idea : programmers by the hour! I'm sure the employees are enjoying it as much as everyone else!

I can tell you I wish some of my old employers had such a sense of fun and vision!

This joke doesn't work
by Chimpboy on Wed 6th Aug 2003 01:06 UTC

Whoa ... that site was painfully unfunny and trying to sell overpriced merchandise to boot. I would have had more chimps!!!

Good concept/poor execution.

RE: Cheap Outsourcing Trends
by Bob Sakowski on Wed 6th Aug 2003 02:18 UTC

A chimp as an IT drone? Why not, we have one in the White House.

Oh, dear. Eugenia goes on vacation, and the children go wild.

With an ape suit I wonder if they can get me work...

No other work out here...

cant believe some of you
by e g on Wed 6th Aug 2003 05:02 UTC

cant get the joke there ?

It's a response to all the OUTSOURCING crap news coming out . I think it's funny. Another idea is to teach prisoners IT programming . Bank software ? haahaa.

v Monkeys are cool.

primates
by Jeremy on Wed 6th Aug 2003 08:52 UTC

1. Primates have been the outsourcing trend forever. Humans are primates.

2. Insulting people (such as GWB) by likening them to great apes is offensive. Great apes are sensitive, intelligent, and highly endangered.

3. Some races do resemble non-human primates more than others. So what?

Re: Disturbing
by Don Cox on Wed 6th Aug 2003 10:57 UTC

"Only if you think people of those races resemble primates. I don't, do you?"

You are a primate. So am I.

I think it's a great site. I particularly liked the interview photos.

Unixware Primates
by chemicalscum on Wed 6th Aug 2003 12:07 UTC

Obviously SCO must have outsourced programming Unixware to them.

Gives new meaning...
by Justin on Wed 6th Aug 2003 14:35 UTC

To the phrase "code monkeys"!

Too funny. As for the rest of ya-lighten up: take a break fropm the flame wars and have a laugh!

Finally it came to IT
by vlad on Wed 6th Aug 2003 14:40 UTC

It was well known in financial world. I cannot find the reference but I guess it's somehwere on Motleyfool. There was an article that monkey doing random stock picks will have better perfroming portfolio than average mutual fund manager. That's why investing is referred as "monkey business" and etrade commercial had chimp as main character.
I like the talent page - I think I should add "well mannered" to my resume. I doubt I can compete with those skills although.

Primates
by Kevin on Thu 7th Aug 2003 06:07 UTC

Whoever created this site should look up the classification for humans. Humans belong to the order primates (as do apes, monkeys, etc) so it takes some of the humor out of the website...
